UFCW Canada was delighted to take part in Toronto’s recent Inti Raymi festival where thousands of individuals from the San Lorenzo Latin American community attended the lively event this past weekend. The occasion celebrated Toronto’s Latin culture and featured international foods, local artists and live music. This year’s celebration was especially significant for migrant worker communities. The event highlighted the importance of building strong relationships with migrant workers and partnering with organizations devoted to improving their circumstances while in Canada.
One of those associations is UFCW Canada who sponsored the event and organized transportation for more than 50 migrant workers from Simcoe and Virgil to attend the celebration. Activists from UFCW Canada Local 1000A and the Agricultural Workers Alliance (AWA) also showed their support at the festival by participating in the event’s BBQ and Walk for Peace on June 23rd and 24th.
This year’s Inti Raymi festival was a great accomplishment for Toronto’s Latin community which recognized and established strong relationships with UFCW Canada and migrant workers. UFCW Canada National President Wayne Hanley, who spoke at event expressed, “The Inti Raymi tribute is a commendable illustration of how different cultures and organizations working together can achieve dignity and justice for all workers and workplaces in Canada.”
