BDM Scholarship update

This week, UFCW Canada is proud to update our profile of BDM scholarship winners with three lucky Local 500 members from Quebec.

Every year, UFCW Canada offers 18 annual scholarships of $1,000 each to members and their children for post-secondary education. Allocated by the Ontario, Quebec, Western Canada, and Atlantic Canada regions, these awards are named as a lasting tribute to three past leaders of our union: William Beggs, Fred Dowling, and Roméo Mathieu.

Tehranian Amir is a BDM winner from Laval who works at the Laval Dunn Metro. Tehranian is currently enrolled in the Electrical program at CIMMIE (Le Centre intégré de mécanique, de métallurgie et d'électricité), and is pictured receiving the BDM scholarship from Local 500 President Tony Filato and union representative Julie Lauzon.

When not working at Drouin Metro Plus in Longueuil, Jacob Lawrence studies social studies at College Edouard-Montpetit. Brother Lawrence is pictured receiving the BDM scholarship from Local 500 union representative Dominic Lagarde, who also presented Jacob with a very nice lap top bag for all his hard work.

Stephanie Pelletier, who works at the Loblaws Angus in Montreal, is another very happy Local 500 member after winning the $1000 BDM scholarship. Pictured with Local 500 union representative Virginia Sauvé Lemay, Sister Pelletier is studying Human Environment (Geo) at Concordia University.

The National Office is also very pleased to report that new BDM Scholarship posters are now available in both French and English. The new scholarship posters are now freely available at www.ufcw.ca/posters.

Stay tuned to DIRECTIONS for further profiles of BDM Scholarship winners in the coming weeks. In the meantime, a full list of all recipients can be found here.
