Local 1869: Seven years strong

Despite Winnipeg’s brisk autumn wind, UFCW Canada Local 1869 members and their families gathered outside recently to enjoy a picnic and celebrate their local union’s seventh anniversary.

“The success of the picnic says a lot about Local 1869 and how strong we’ve become,” says the local union’s long-time activist and president Aline Audette. “Not only did we have a really great day of celebration and solidarity, but we also used the picnic as an opportunity to fundraise for two very important causes.” During the day-long event, Local 1869 members and their families raised over $1,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC) and the Winnipeg Harvest Food Bank.

Local 1869 is one of UFCW Canada’s leading healthcare local unions, representing over 1,000 technical and support workers at Winnipeg’s St. Boniface Hospital.
