RWDSU joins National Council

The Retail Wholesale Department Store Union (RWDSU) Northern Joint Council recently joined the UFCW Canada National Council, the union’s leadership forum and national executive board.

“As our core industries become more and more consolidated it’s important for our major employers to know their workers belong to a united national organization with international resources, and the Northern Joint Council’s affiliation to the UFCW Canada National Council reinforces that message,” says Derik McArthur, who serves as RWDSU’s Canadian director and president of the Northern Joint Council (NJC). Brother McArthur will also be representing the Northern Joint Council on the UFCW Canada National Council.

The Northern Joint Council consists of 11 local unions that represent several thousand workers in a number of communities across northern Ontario.

“With the addition of the Northern Joint Council, the UFCW Canada National Council welcomes an important region and ensures a more coordinated approach to our collective bargaining and growth efforts,” says UFCW Canada National President Wayne Hanley.
